18 Wonderful Ways to Make Happy Absolutely Happen

It was incredibly amazing!  It was a worldwide rage that seemed to reach every corner of our planet.

Few things have moved the entire world to the level of this phenomenon.  Not even Psy’s Gangnam Style (which at last count for its official music video on YouTube was 45,852,313 views) could be said to capture the interest of almost everyone on Earth.

This phenomenon, though, had 819,429,706 views of its official music video on YouTube.  It is “Happy” by Pharell Williams.

What does its popularity tell you about the people of the world and maybe even you?  Could it be you and many others are desperately searching for feeling a state of “happy?”

The implication of such a search is this.  You can’t necessarily find a state of being happy by looking externally.

Yes, you could invest 4 minutes and 6 seconds to watch the official music video and you probably can’t resist being lifted out of any funk you may be in.  If it isn’t the lyrics or rhythm of the song, the dancing will put you over the top with glee.

BUT—that’s for only 4 minutes, 6 seconds, what are you going to do to feel happy the rest of the time?

Happiness is a state of mind born of your choices.

Here are 18 ways you can choose to be consistently happy.

You’re alive!  That alone should make you happy.  Consider the alternative!  Yes, a faith-based alternative might imply some form of paradise but nobody knows for sure until your mortality takes you there.

Choose to breathe the wonder of each second of your life, now.  You will be happy you did!

Take stock of the good things that have happened to you!  If you really focus and become more conscious of all the good things that have happened in your life so far, you can’t help but be lifted up.

Choose to focus on the good in your life.  You will be happy you did!

Take stock of the bad things that have happened to you!  Focus on what you learned from experiencing those bad things and how that new knowledge helped you.

Choose to move on in your life not dwell on what has been lost because of bad things that have happened to you.  You will be happy you did!

When you awake each morning, consider the good things you are going to do with your life that day.  Positive affirmations are a great tool to help you do that.

Choose the attitude you will take each day.  You will be happy you did!

My bet is you have other relationships in your life that are important to you.  They could be people, places or things, for that matter.  Take an inventory of each relationship and list all the good things from them that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Choose to value the internal warmth you gain from your relationships.  You will be happy you did!

Look at the sky and the entire world around you.  Consider the wonder of every little detail you see.  Ask yourself the question:  What about what I see makes me feel good inside?

Choose to truly experience the beauty of the world around you.  You will be happy you did!

Take frequent breaks from the rat race of daily living.  Even a few minutes walking in a park or taking a quick power nap can help you feel the “happy” inside of you.

Choose to reduce stress in your life.  You will be happy you did!

If you are like most of us, you can get so caught up in what you need to get done that you burn the candle at both ends.  Life is too short for that.  In fact, your life will be much shorter if you overwork each day.

Choose to get a good night’s sleep.  You will be happy you did!

A life led over emphasizing limitations can be saddening.  It is impossible to be sad and happy at the same time.

Choose to dream about your potential and take action for reaching it.  You will be happy you did!

Think about all the things in your life that make you feel happy inside.  Make a list of them.  Evaluate what it is about each one of them that helps you feel that internal happiness.

Choose to define what happiness means to you.  You will be happy you did!

A body that is physically deteriorating because of your neglect will impact your outlook on your life.  That happens because a lack of physical health will impact your ability to deal with the challenges in your life.

Choose to pursue a disciplined physical exercise program.  You will be happy you did!

Just as physical exercise can positively impact the quality of your life so can taking a disciplined approach to mental exercise.  The constant pursuit of new knowledge will be the driver to a brighter future.

Choose a path of lifelong learning.  You will be happy you did!

There is a reason why the “Blue Zones” movement has taken root.  If you’re not familiar with it, one of the key characteristics discovered in the research that sparked the movement had to do with the diet consumed by people of longevity.  The bottom-line is your diet can drive your physical and mental health which directly impacts the length of your life.

Choose to manage your diet.  You will be happy you did!

If you are like most of us, you would like to feel you are in touch with something greater than yourself.  That contact could be created through practicing an organized religion; it could be metaphysically derived; or achieved through any number of other approaches.  It’s not the source it’s that you feel the connection.

Choose to connect with something greater than yourself.  You will be happy you did!

Career pursuits would seem to be important if not necessary for most of us.  You, too?

Choose to do something you absolutely love.  You will be happy you did!

You may have heard this before but in an article about happiness it is very important to restate it.  You are a one of kind miracle.  2,240 trillion to 1—I read that ratio some time ago and it represents the scientific odds of you being born.

Choose to love yourself for the miracle you are.  You will be happy you did!

Human creative expression can be traced back thousands of years.  In fact, some researchers believe creative expression began even before humans began to disperse from Africa hundreds of thousands of years ago.  They would suggest creative expression is one of the defining characteristics of the human species.

Choose to find your unique creative genius.  You will be happy you did!

By the way, one thing that is not unique about you is your lack of perfection.  One definition of perfection is:  “the condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects.”

Choose to accept yourself even with your imperfections.  You will be happy you did!
