A Body Is Necessary to the Right Head for Success

Consider the title of this post as you close your eyes and let your imagination run wild.

Now—Wake up!head-674125_1920

It is time for a little reality.  Your imagination may have taken you down the wrong path for where I’m going.

I’m not trying to be unkind in tricking you in such a way.  Rather, my efforts are directed at drawing your attention to a huge challenge you face.

The consequences if you don’t meet that challenge are catastrophic to reaching your full potential in your life.

Sounds ominous, doesn’t it?  I believe it is!storm-20352_1280

The challenge is “putting the cart before the horse” when thinking about success.  In short, a body comes before you can develop a head for success.

There you go again…imagining things!  ;<)

The “body” to which I refer is your body of knowledge.  You can’t be, do or have all you desire unless your level of knowledge will support it.

There is a simple example to support that last point.

baby-784607_1920When you were born, your level of knowledge was unconscious competence.  That is to say the instinctive functions necessary to maintain you as a living being were at play.  You knew nothing really on a conscious level but on an unconscious level your involuntary bodily functions helped you succeed at living.

There was a body of knowledge at work helping you successfully live but you just didn’t know it.

Now, think about your life as you physically grew and intellectually developed.  At every level your success was dictated by what you learned from the world around you.   In fact the more you knew, the more you could do!

Your knowledge and skills are the body that supports your head for success.  That is true not just now but, if you want a total life well lived; you will continue to expand your knowledge and skills all through the journey.

The first thing you need to do in effectively and efficiently growing your body of knowledge and skills is to determine your learning needs/goals.signs-1172208_1920

Ask yourself the questions:  What is it I need to know more about?  What would be my goal in developing that knowledge?

With your answers for those two questions clearly in mind, you will be able to build a step-by-step plan to acquire the new knowledge or develop the new skills.beach-1176270_1280

The reasons why you want to grow your body of knowledge are implied throughout this article, so far.  But…it really comes down to two reasons.

One is a simple desire for personal development.  You could be desirous of learning a second language; playing a musical instrument; developing your cooking or gardening skills, etc.

If nothing else, the personal satisfaction you gain helps in developing “the right head for success.” success-846055_1920

The other major reason for lifelong learning is for your professional development.  The more you know and the more you know how to apply that knowledge the more valuable you are to your employer or your business.

I love the model for becoming an effective learner that is included in an article entitled:  Lifelong Learning.

I would recommend you follow the link to that article.  Doing so will help you develop an even deeper understanding why continually developing your knowledge and skills throughout your life is so fulfilling.
