A Simple Lesson

“I have just three things to teach:  simplicity, patience and compassion.  These three are your greatest treasures.”  Lao Tzu

Think about it!  If your life were much simpler, wouldn’t it be less stressful and therefore, so much better.  Simplicity doesn’t imply a lack of a sense of abundance.  Simplicity is becoming all you can be without creating more than you are able to handle.

Patience is an interesting concept given our fast-paced world.  Who can be patient in the face of someone cutting in front of us on the street?  Or, how can we be patient with the current ineptitude of politicians around the world?  Being patient doesn’t mean being weak or accepting of the status quo, however.  Patience is a state of mind that allows you to get what you want on a timely basis without an expense to others.

Lastly, compassion can be defined as sympathetic concern for the sufferings of others.  If you can’t appreciate what others are going through without being judgmental, you have lost one treasure of your humanity.  You have become less of what your fellow man needs you to be.

So, live with compassion and patience and you will experience greater simplicity in your life…a life of great treasures.
