Busy As a Bee!

b2ap3_thumbnail_MP900316870Yup…I know you’ve been there and done that, as they say.  You’re flitting around from this to that and totally consumed by it all.  Oh, if there were just more time to get things done!  Wouldn’t that be great?

There’s probably a very good reason you’re feeling that way.  Most likely it comes down to you being “busy as a bee” but not productively.  I hope you’ll pardon the alliterative nature of that previous sentence but it makes the point very well.

You see, you can be busy with things that don’t really matter.  Take for example rearranging the silverware drawer when what is really needed is a complete replacement of the drawer itself.  Or, take a potentially typical situation at work as another example.  You’ve got this huge and extremely important project hanging over your head but rather than, at least getting started on it, you fritter your time away answering meaningless emails or, worse yet, checking your Facebook page.  Yes, you’re busy but are you really being truly productive?

Being busy simply means being heavily engaged in some way.  Being productive means doing the right things at the right time and in the right way. There’s a big difference, as you can see.   So, how do you avoid being just busy?

First, it’s all a matter of focus.  You have to first, define the most important (right) things you should be doing.  Secondly, you have to allocate all the tasks tied to getting the most important things done along a workable timeline for their accomplishment.  Finally, you must put forth your best effort in doing each task.

Arrange each day around using the aforementioned three step process and you will be busy and productive.  That’s important because, after all, the bee is busy so it can produce honey!
