Deselect Intellect

All right!  I know.  Being an intelligent, thinking person is important to you and I can understand why.  After all, without a fair degree of intellect, at least, you might be challenged at all aspects of living a full life.  I mean.  Let’s think about the meaning of the word, intellect, for a moment.  According to one dictionary it can be defined as the ability to use the mind to think logically and understand things.  Sounds important to me!

But, if we get too entrapped by always depending on our intellect in making decisions we may miss the some of the full, bursting flavors of life.  Sometimes you just have to jump in, make a decision and, then, make it right regardless of the risks.

Put the use of your intellect in the perspective of the great thinker and teacher, Annie Dillard.  One of her thoughts on all of this is:  “If we listened to our intellect, we’d never have a love affair.  We’d never have a friendship.  We’d never go into business because we’d be too cynical.  Well, that’s nonsense.  You’ve got to jump off of cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down.”

That’s exactly what I mean by deselect intellect on certain occasions.
