Five Ways People Fail and Do Not Succeed

“Chug, chug, chug.  Puff, puff, puff.”  So goes the first two sentences of The Little Engine That Could.  A popular children’s book first published in 1930.

Ever feel like you’re chug, chug, chugging and puff, puff, puffing and getting absolutely nowhere?  Why might that be the case for you but not the Little Engine?  Recall she was a happy little engine that achieved what she set out to do.

There are five key reasons for the success of The Little Engine That Could.  Those same five reasons have direct applicability to you and achieving success.

First, is mindset.  Mindset is the established set of attitudes held by you or anyone else for that matter.

The mindset of the little engine that could was a positive one.  She was going to succeed regardless of the challenges.  Just like the little engine…where you dwell in your mind is where you live in your heart.  You are the summation of how you think.

Secondly, the little engine had a vision of where she wanted to go and she focused on that vision intently.  With vision comes purpose and with purpose comes motivational power to reach a goal.  It was true for the little engine and it is just as true for you.

The little engine’s vision helped her define what success was to her.  It was her clear understanding of the meaning of success that was the third reason she got over the top of the hill and down to the boys and girls on the other side.

Do as the little engine did.  Define what success will be for you. It’s got to be a crystal clear picture of what you want.

The fourth key for the little engine was her level of efficiency and effectiveness.  She did the right things and generated high quality results.  You may very well be “chug, chug, chugging and puff, puff, puffing” because you are not doing the right things; in the right way; to get the high quality and right results.

Finally, the little engine that could was a leader.  She believed in the philosophy that leadership required her to move all the good things for boys and girls from where they were to where they needed to be.

Just as the little engine you have to move yourself from where you are to where you need to be.

If you do not consistently act on the above 5 keys, as did the little engine, they will become the five reasons you fail and do not succeed.
