How to Figure Out What to Do to Work Things Out

So, here you are reading this blog because you’re wondering what to do to work things out in your life.  Maybe that’s not why you are here at all!  Either way you can benefit from the ideas expressed.

Think about it…ever get confronted with an issue or challenge in your life and say to yourself (many times with a degree of angst or low self-confidence)…What to do?

The key in these situations is to not overemphasize the “what” so much that you are frozen in anxiety and malaise. Rather, the emphasis should be on the “do.”

wellness-545133_1920Always, always, always you must do something! The lasting legacy of your life will not be what you didn’t do. Your impact on the world around you and the quality of your life is measured in terms of what you do.

Is it easy to take an action when faced with many of life’s challenges? Absolutely not!

When faced with a daunting challenge of some sort, your initial reaction many times may be denial or disbelief. You say to yourself things like: Can’t be true. I’ll close my eyes and it will go away…Or, some words to that effect.

There is only one way to deal with life’s issues or challenges and that is to face up to them; accept their reality; understand the options; create a plan of attack; and then execute on the plan, i.e., DO!  You can’t ever deny them!

hand-76738_1280What is currently your biggest issue or challenge? Whatever it is write down the answer to the following questions:

1.       What is the reality of the issue or challenge?

2.       On another piece of paper, draw a line down the middle and put a question at the top of the left and right columns.

o    Left column: What opportunities does this issue/challenge offer me?

o    Right column: What threats does this issue/challenge pose to me?

3.       For your answers in the left column answer the following question: What are the things I can DO to take advantage of these opportunities?

4.       For your answers in the right column answer the following question: How can I minimize the threats while exercising my option to take advantage of the opportunities?

5.       DO whatever your answers to the above questions suggest you should do!

When it comes to getting yourself to DO step 5 consider this.

Everything will work out the way it is supposed to work out as long as you’re working at it. In short, success takes work.

Worrying about your future success rather than working at the things necessary for that success will not get you there!

Think about it.

Worrying about whether success will come is worse than wishing for success to come.

woman-1253485_1920Neither of those two mindstates will drive you to a higher level of success. Rather, they will absolutely guarantee you will get stuck in the peat bog of despair…unable to move forward.

Resolve right now that you will never allow yourself to get stuck on your way to success. Commit to yourself that you will make things work out the way you want them to by never giving up.

When you know you’re doing what it takes there is always hope. When there is hope along with hard work, success is inevitable.

Believe in the words of Winston Churchill when he and his countrymen were faced with what looked like hopeless, inevitable destruction by Nazi Germany in the early stages of World War II.

In a speech late in 1941 but before the United States entered the war he said:

“Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never–in nothing, great or small, large or petty–never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.”

It makes “good sense” you should succeed. Work at it with “honor” and you will work it out.
