b2ap3_thumbnail_j0180559Sometimes a word can suggest something that it isn’t.  The word in the title of this post is one of those words, in my opinion.

To me, journey suggests something potentially laborious and interminable.  I picture in my mind’s eye some kind of beast of burden slogging along looking forlorn and downright suicidal!  One would be compelled to want to put the beast out of its misery.

Of course, as members of the human race, most of us would not consider ourselves beasts of burden on some kind of miserable journey.  And, yet, that is exactly what life is…Maybe not a miserable journey but, for sure, a journey just not as beasts of burden, most likely.  The point is life is not a foot race to the finish line but a long term effort at working our way through life’s twists and turns, up and downs.

So, how is it we can make the journey as pleasant as possible?  Well, let’s look at it, first, through just one definition of the word.  Journey:  “an act of traveling from one place to another.”  There doesn’t seem to be anything in that definition that would suggest a burdensome and loathsome experience. On the contrary!  An act of traveling from one place to another might suggest an exciting experience that could lead to the discovery of new things.

Ooooh…I like that—living the idea of an exciting experience leading to the discovery of new things.  That puts the whole idea of a journey into a very positive and pleasant context.  How did we get there?  Simple, we changed the way we thought about the word.

And, so it is with the journey of your life.  You can make the decision to make it an exciting experience that constantly leads to the discovery of new things.  You’re the travel agent of your life!
