Live Like You Were Dying

Yikes! Here I go again! You may get upset with me but I can’t help it that Country Music is such a great source for outstanding philosophical thoughts. The singer/songwriters in that genre of music are amazing in how they can write music and lyrics that gets right to the powerful, passionate point.

Take Tim McGraw’s lyrics for the song named in the title of this post. There’s amazing insight and substance to the lyrics telling the story in that song. At the end of the chorus, the lyrics state: “Someday I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying.” Here’s a link to the complete lyrics for the song.

b2ap3_thumbnail_00425160The verse that precedes this chorus tells the story of a man in his forties diagnosed with cancer. He’s moved to get advice that comes in part through the lyrics noted in the previous paragraph. Well, what would you do if you got similar news?

There’s the big, scary question. Unfortunately, too many of us live like we’re going to go on living forever. We never seriously consider our own mortality in a way that allows us to make the best life choices when we truly have the option to do so.

One of those choices you could make has to do with how you take care of your physical well-being. Do you pay attention to all the advice out there surrounding the idea of consistent exercise to maintain your healthy body? Well, you should because, if you would, you will have a better chance of living more of forever than you would otherwise.

It’s like the great Jim Rohn has said: “Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” I suggest you pay attention to it just like you would if you were forced to “live like you were dying.”
