Say What You Like…

…The Chinese have an enduring culture as illustrated by thousands of years of history.  Amazing, really, considering the many situations where social and political upheaval were the rule of the day.

Just a quick review to validate my ultimate point.  One study of Chinese history at Columbia University would offer a chronology like what follows.  The Neolithic Cultures existed from 10,000 to 2,000 BCE (Before Common Era).  Then, the great Chinese Dynasties took hold from ca. 2100 BCE through 1912 CE (Common Era) or, as we may more familiarly refer to recent history, AD.  In 1912, the Republic Period began and lasted until 1949 when the current People’s Republic of China began.  See what I mean?  Pretty impressive depth of history!

It’s that depth of history that may lead us to better understand the philosophical depth of China, as well.  Whether you want to relate that depth to the thoughts of Confucius, Lao Tzu or many others…Say what you like, the Chinese have been thinkers of depth for a long time.

So, my ultimate point is best made by a Chinese proverb:  “One moment of patience may ward off great disaster.  One moment of impatience may ruin a whole life.”

Don’t say what you like in a moment of impatience or you will get what you don’t like as a long-term consequence.
