Simple As This

I’m writing this post on a Sunday.  I don’t know if that has anything to do with why I’m focusing on a particular topic.  It doesn’t make any real difference because I’m not trying to preach to you.  I’m trying to help you simplify a very complex concept.

The concept?  Religion or, more specifically what is popularly referred to as “organized religion.”  The term applies to any religious concepts where someone or something has organized an approach as to how you should think about your own spirituality.  Now, that’s a complex concept!

Far too complex, in my opinion, to force people into the proverbial pigeon-hole.  You know the labels…protestant, catholic, jew, muslim, and a boat-load of others.  Each label brings with it various tenents and or practices to which you must adhere or you are not considered in good standing.  Last time I checked, most of us want to feel like we are in good standing with however we label our higher power.  As a consequence, we tend to over-complicate our lives.  We live lives of conformance rather than lives of spiritual fulfillment.

I better stop here or I’m going to be guilty of doing what I said I was trying not to do…preach to you.

Abraham Lincoln made the whole complex concept as simple as this.  “When I do good, I feel good; when I do bad, I feel bad, and that is my religion.”
