The Great Pretender

b2ap3_thumbnail_MP900443818Okay…many of you reading this post may never have heard of the outstanding Pop singing group, The Platters.  If you haven’t, well get with it and do a YouTube search and listen to some of their amazing music.  Yes, they are from another era but their words are just as current as that of Bruno Mars or some other contemporary Pop sensation.

One of the Platters greatest hits was a song by the same title as this post.  The story in the lyrics of this song is about someone who has lost a loved one. However, the person is disguising his or her heart ache.  The lyrics say things like:  “Pretending that I’m doing well.”  “I’m lonely but no one can tell.”  “I seem to be what I’m not, you see.”  “Oh-oh, yes I’m the great pretender.”

Sounds like a pitiful situation, doesn’t it?  Well, let me briefly describe what could be a worse one for you, personally!

If there were lyrics to a song describing this situation, they might include phrases like:  “Oh-oh, yes I believe I’m fooling them.”  “They know not what I really feel.” “To them I’m the real deal.”  “Yes, I believe I’m fooling them.”  “They think on me they can depend.”  But, they don’t know how much I pretend.”

Cut to reality…

You can pretend emotions but you can’t pretend actions.
