The Luck of the Draw

b2ap3_thumbnail_j0401581What’s the title of this post mean, anyway?  I’ve heard it a million times, at least, and I think I know what it means…but…  Let’s put the meaning in clear perspective so I can find a purpose in titling this post as above.

The Free Dictionary defines the phrase, “the luck of the draw” this way.  “If something is the luck of the draw, it is the result of chance and you have no control over it.”  By the way, the dictionary goes on to define the word, draw, as:  “A draw is a competition in which you win if the number on your ticket is chosen.”  Just to be perfectly clear, the Cambridge Dictionary has a similar definition which says, “to be the result of chance and something you have no control over.”

Well…now that we have clarity on the meaning of the title for this post, we can make sure your understanding of my point doesn’t come as the result of the luck of the draw, if you’ll pardon the pun.  In other words, I want you to be absolutely clear on why nothing of importance in your life should be risked by depending on the luck of the draw.

Think about it!  Why would you leave anything you really care about in this life to chance and totally out of your control?  Hopefully, you wouldn’t.  But, not to leave it to chance, here’s how to make sure you have more certainty in your life and all that you do related to it.

Seneca said it best.  “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”  In other words, you guarantee good luck and putting the luck of the draw always in your favor by adequately preparing for each eventuality so that the ensuing opportunities can be realized to your benefit.

By the way, I hope you didn’t just stumble onto this blog post through the luck of the draw!  My goal is to make it good enough that you are a consistent visitor.
