Think About It

I’m sure you’re like most of us.  We spend entirely too much time focused on ourselves and our little world.  Now, I’m not suggesting that it’s totally inappropriate to be self-centered from time to time.  If we weren’t, we wouldn’t know where we are in relationship to where we want to go.

But, here’s the key point.  Too often, as human beings, we become somewhat arrogant as to our importance to the world around us.  I think the simplest way to correct that ailment, if it has attacked you, is to think about the words of John Muir.  He said:

“The world, we are told, was made especially for man – a presumption not supported by all the facts…. Why should man value himself as more than a small part of the one great unit of creation.”

Think about it!  Being a small part of our great, big, wide universe is better than being a big part of your tiny, little world.  You’ll be a bigger person for it!
