Words are amazing!  They give us directions to live by.  Without words how would we ever understand our world; the people around us; or, the secrets to success in life.  I know…those comments seem so obvious so, why even write them?  Because I want to give you some ideas for helping you realize your potential.  Actually, give you some ideas generated from the multiple meanings of just one word.

b2ap3_thumbnail_MP900405112The word to which I am referring has an origin from the Greek, heur.     The word is heuristic.  Yes, it sounds highbrow and complicated but as you’ll see it’s simple and dynamic in its directions for you to live your life.

What follows are four different takes on the meaning of the word, heuristic.

1. Serving to indicate or point out; stimulating interest as a means of furthering investigation.
2. Encouraging a person to learn, discover, understand, or solve problems on his or her own, as by experimenting, evaluating possible answers or solutions, or by trial and error.
3. Of, pertaining to, or based on experimentation, evaluation, or trial-and-error methods.
4. Denoting a rule of thumb for solving a problem without the exhaustive application of an algorithm

So what do you do with those definitions?  How do you make practical application of them in reaching your potential in life?

Okay…here goes!

Have you ever thought about the importance of stimulating your interest in life so you can stay engaged in truly investigating the options it offers you?  Be heuristic and you will.

Have you ever thought about the importance of encouraging yourself to learn, discover, understand, or solve problems on your own?  Be heuristic and you will.

Have you ever thought about the importance of experimenting, evaluating and using trial-and-error methods?  Be heuristic and you will.

Have you ever thought about the importance of keeping things simple rather than using complicated formulas?  Be heuristic and you will.

By the way the word is pronounced:  hyoo-RIS-tik.  Also, the root of the word, heur, means to discover.  Become all it means and you become all you can be.
