Universal Chaos

When I was a kid, one of the many things I thought I wanted to do when I grew up was to become an astronomer.  Well, that didn’t happen for a lot of reasons not the least of which was realizing math was not a strong suit of mine.  Last time I checked, to be an effective astronomer you have to be able to calculate things in ways that don’t add up for me.

That said, I still find myself drawn to the clear, night sky with wonderment.  However, I can never make out things in, what for me, is the chaos of the universe even with my faithful companion, Field Guide to the Night Sky.  I get totally confused in trying to match the pictures of the night sky in the Field Guide with the real sky.  Like I suggest in the title of this post.  It’s all universal chaos to me.

On the other hand, scientists seem to have very logical and orderly explanations for how the universe works.  Their descriptions include a lot of things to explain the universal order of things.  They talk about an ever expanding universe; light years; galaxies; nebulae; suns; stars.  Aah, that’s an interesting one:  stars.

From my understanding of scientific descriptions of the universe, stars are constantly being born and dying.  Out of the chaos of the universe is, among other facts, the fact that stars are born from that chaos.  In fact, the scientists would suggest, if the chaotic mixture of all the components that go into making up the universe didn’t exist, stars could not be born.

Which in my simple way of thinking, tells each of us that the chaos of our individual lives can mirror that of the universe.  It is the chaos that drives us to search for answers.  It is the chaos that helps us create new from the old.  It is the chaos that drives us to do the things necessary to achieve stability in our lives.

I know it sounds like a chaotic way to get from where we are to where we want to go.  But, it seems to be a universal truth.  It’s the chaos that confirms we are alive!  Embrace it!
