Well Read

They say knowledge without action is just the same as being ignorant.  Pretty strong statement, don’t you think?  But, consider this.  If you know something and don’t apply it in some productive way, what good is it to you and the world around you?  You might as well not know it at all!

Life is always about action.  But, to take appropriate and meaningful actions in your life , you have to have a knowledge base from which to draw.  How can you act if you don’t know what to act on or how to act on it?  I contend you can’t.  You have got to continuously grow your base of knowledge throughout your life.

Being well read on a breadth of topics of interest to you is the key.  And, oh by the way, it’s as Thomas Jefferson once said:  “The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.”  In other words, I’m not talking about reading junk.  I’m talking about in depth reading to understand how the knowledge acquired can be productively applied.  Reading only newspapers won’t get you there.  That would be like only watching reality shows on TV rather than the quality programming that can deepen your understanding of the world around you.
