You Can Believe Small Things Get Big Results

b2ap3_thumbnail_MP900184933_20140909-191935_1We see it every day…Some amazing accomplishment by somebody or incredible event occurs.  When we see these things, it’s almost like they happened instantaneously.  They came out of the blue, so to speak, with no preface or warning.  It’s as if they happened all at once and without any previous effort by those involved.

Think again!  No big result ever comes overnight or without great effort.  By definition it can’t happen.  “Big” can only happen on an incremental basis.  One clear example of what I mean is an atomic explosion.  If you have ever seen video of one of those explosions, you know they are big!  In a worst case scenario they can be so big the destructive fall-out can have impact world-wide.  Yet, the explosion is born of the collision of two nuclei of atoms.  You can’t get much smaller than that in creating a big event.

Here’s the application to you and your success in life.  Your success doesn’t explode instantaneously into reality.  Your success is the sum of all the little things you do over, usually, an extended period of time.  A quick example of why I say that is embodied in Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 Hour Rule.  His theory being if you give something 10,000 hours of effort you will become an expert.

It’s been noted that professional musicians practice their skills at least 6 to 8 hours per day.  Professional golfers hit thousands of balls per day.  The golden rule for success at the college level is a minimum of two to three hours of study for every hour of classroom time.  Or, there’s the classic example of how starting small leads to big results:  starting with a penny and doubling the amount every day for a month.  You’ll end up with 20 million dollars by day 31. And, I could go on and on!

But, it’s not necessary because the fact is big things happen because of an accumulation of small successes.  Believe it!  And if you don’t, take a small step and study any of the great resources on the subject of achieving success and each of them will prove there are multiple small steps to getting big results.  Here’s one small step you can take…Google  “great resources on the subject of success” and you will get about 375,000,000 results.

See what I mean?  You can believe small things get big results!
