You Need to Know the Ultimate Life Hack to a Life Well Lived

Frankly I’m getting a little annoyed with the overuse of the term or general concept of that term.  My bet is you may feel the same way!

When you think about it you must see or hear the term referenced multiple times a day.  A “hack” for this and a “hack” for that.

On the other hand, I consciously chose to include the term, hack, in the title of this article.  Annoying or not, the concept behind one form of the current use of the term seems instantly clear to most people.

The form of current use of “hack” to which I refer is as a quick solution that solves a problem.

And—clearly there is one quick solution that solves the problem you may have in creating a life well lived.  You’re like most of us…working hard to drive up the quality of our lives.

Well, there are many considerations to creating such a life.  However, of all those considerations, one is paramount.

But, first let’s consider some of the important considerations for living a high quality life to put them in context.  Doing so will help you understand why the paramount consideration is what it is.

Physical Health

An ultimate life well lived would seem to be impossible if you were riddled with debilitating illness or injuries.  Nothing could detract from life more readily than not being able to take advantage of all the options it offers because of that sickness or injury.

Yes, there are plenty of people who enjoy their life even though injured or seriously ill.  To their credit, they have made the necessary adaptations to compensate for their limitations.  Bravo!  Better to make those adaptations then to wallow in self-pity and malaise.

Even so, one would have to say theirs is a life of high quality…given their limitations.  However, it could be argued they have no chance of living the ultimate life that can be derived when in great physical condition.

The late Christopher Reeve is a testimonial to the above point.  He went from living the ultimate life well lived as an international movie star to a beloved example of courage and inspiration.

His paralysis did not stop him from trying to live the best life he could.  However, it did stop him from living the ultimate life of long-term, movie stardom for which he seemed destined.

Physical health is a very important consideration to experiencing the ultimate life well lived.

I’ll save you some time by sharing some of the outstanding observations made by others regarding the importance of family in living a life well lived.

The informality of family life is a blessed condition that allows us to become our best while looking our worst.— Marge Kennedy

The great gift of family life is to be intimately acquainted with people you might never even introduce yourself to, had life not done it for you.— Kendall Hailey

The love of family and the admiration of friends is much more important than wealth and privilege.— Ritu Ghatourey

F.A.M.I.L.Y is one of the strongest words anyone can say, because the letters of FAMILY means Father And Mother I Love You!!!— Unknown

Family is a very important consideration to experiencing the ultimate life well lived.

If you are to achieve all you can be, do or have, you have to know what to do and how to do it.  There is only one way to acquire that knowledge and that is through learning it.

Both formal education and self-education are the foundation to the potential of your life.  Without them, the rest of the structure to living a life well lived can’t be built.

By taking advantage of every level of education you can, you enrich the understanding of yourself and the world around you.

It is through that deeper understanding you can grasp all the opportunities laid before you when living a truly high quality life.  Having choices and opportunities add exponential value to your life.

Education is a very important consideration to experiencing the ultimate life well lived.

The ultimate value of a life could be measured by the contribution it makes to the rest of mankind through having a passionate purpose.

The more you love what you do the more that trade or profession adds to the quality of your life.

Some say (Aristotle for one) life is all about finding ultimate happiness.  It would seem to me to be impossible to achieve any level of happiness if one is not feeling their purpose is making a contribution to the quality of life.

So—I say—Employment is a very important consideration to experiencing the ultimate life well lived.

Wealth can be a very confusing concept because there are so many ways to look at it.

Are we talking about material wealth; spiritual wealth; a wealth of relationships; wealth of knowledge; wealth of good health; wealth of value perceived in doing one’s job?

How about all of those things!!  Being wealthy in only one facet of your life seems to be totally contradictory to living the ultimate life well lived.

Wealth is a very important consideration to experiencing the ultimate life well lived.

Spiritual Connection

Far be it from me to tell you what spiritual approach you should take in your life regarding following a particular formal religion.

The point I think that is important to you in this area of your life is you have some sense of peace regarding your place in the universe.

Call it a belief in God or a definite connection to the energy of the universe.  One way or another you must be able to touch the core of your soul (spirituality).

Some spiritual, contemplative practice is critical to connection with your core.  Some call it prayer while others call it meditation.  Some call it yoga while others practice journaling.

Any of those practices would seem to support better health and healthier choices, in general.

Research confirms there is a positive relationship between religious and spiritual practices and better health outcomes.

Spiritual connection is a very important consideration to experiencing the ultimate life well lived.

You know what, though?

All of the above considerations require one thing above all others to make the difference in the quality of life you live. Or, as the title to this article put it: The Ultimate Life Hack to a Life Well Lived.

That “life hack” is best identified through the following quote:

In the end, it is attention to detail that makes all the difference. It’s the center fielder’s extra two steps to the left, the salesman’s memory for names, the lover’s phone call, the soldier’s clean weapon. It is the thing that separates the winners from the losers, the men from the boys and, very often, the living from the dead.  –David Noonan
