You See…End of the Year Does Not Mean End of Your Effort

So…Bambi had a choice to make.  Up to this point his survival had been provided through his mother’s guidance and encouragement.

No more!  She had not survived the hunter’s bullets.

One phase of his life had ended and he had to make his own choices of how to move forward in his life.  deer-837439_1920

As I write this article, the end of another year is fast approaching.  If you are to move forward in your life during the New Year, you are going to have to make similar choices to Bambi when one phase of his life ended.

So…just as for Bambi, the end of the year or phase of life does not mean the end of your effort.

The challenge is to make your best effort!  There are two levels of effort needing your best choices:  Efficient effort and Effective effort.

There are significant differences to both levels and understanding them is critical to your successful effort going forward.

Time is your most precious asset so the last thing you should want to do is waste any of it in the New Year or on into the future.

The effort you put forth regarding being efficient is all about not being wasteful.  Thus, your plans for the New Year must provide for not wasting time, energy and resources.

Before we get into ways for you to be more efficient, it’s important to give some attention to the other level of effort…being effective.

Effective effort is all about generating your desired results.  One of the worst things you could do in the New Year is put forth all kinds of effort but not be successful in reaching your goals.

Here you are…in a Bambi like moment.  Bambi figured out how to efficiently and effectively survive in his world.

You can too!  Here are some ideas on how to do that.

To avoid wasting time, energy and resources memorize the following affirmation and repeat it at least three times daily throughout the New Year.

“At all times I will focus my priorities on doing the right things; in the right way; using the right resources; and all of those are to be done at the right time.”

You are in a unique set of circumstances therefore I can’t tell you what is right for you in things, ways, resources or timing.  However, I can give you the single most important technique for helping keep focused in the “right” way.

You have to discipline yourself to create and follow a written, daily to-do list.  I don’t care if it is written on a piece of paper; in some electronic format; or whatever.  Just do it!

And, remember being effective is all about delivering desired results.  A to-do list that is properly prioritized and followed will assure you achieve your desired results for doing the right things; in the right way; using the right resources; and at the right time.

If that’s going to happen the structure of your to-do list has to include more than just the tasks to be accomplished.  Here’s one suggestion for the column headings of your to-do list.

Thing(Task)   Way(Step to be taken)    Resources(Materials, etc., needed)    Time(Deadline)

Your most efficient and effective way to process the items on your to-do list is to dedicate the largest amount of your time on those items having the greatest potential impact on moving you toward your desired results.

If you will put forth the effort to follow the above suggestions, at the end of next year you will feel like you’re prince or princess of your forest just like Bambi became.

It’s the end of the year but that doesn’t mean it can be the end of your effort!

What is the most important thing you can do in putting forth the right effort to deliver your desired results?
